Hi there,

How are you doing?

I met an African during the course of the month. In just a few minutes of talking with him, he began opening up about some astonishing chapters of his life. He narrated how he was born in a small village in the UK, how his father served in the military, how he became a footballer, and later studied marine engineering. As a good listener, I let him spill it all out. He went on about his career, marriage, and investments. Honestly, he shared things you wouldn’t expect someone to reveal to a person they had just met. At some point, I almost doubted whether everything he was saying was true. But when he finished, I told him, “It is a privilege listening to your experience.”

Thinking about this encounter sparked a new thought in me on Kairos moments—what truly makes some moments opportunistic and divinely arranged for transformation? So, in this month’s write-up, I will be sharing ways opportunities can show up for you and me.

1. Relationship

As much as I don’t like systems that glorify connections as the only way to progress in life, I understand the importance of knowing quality people and receiving recommendations. So, I ask: who do you know, and who are the people around you?

While listening to Niyi Adesanya recently (a popular business coach in Nigeria), he said many top achievers in society are products of Ivy League schools, being born into rich families, or marrying into wealthy and influential families. He went further to say that the levelling ground for people like you and me—who may not fall into any of those categories—is relationship.

2. Information

Information flies around every day. But within videos, texts, and images are hidden gold mines of opportunities.

I attended an international conference in the past few days, and the amount of information I got was massive. I received fresh ideas useful not just for my current research but also for the progression of my career.

In that same conference, I also met professors offering PhD research positions and others with huge funding opportunities. You see, there are many people who may be seeking PhD opportunities in my field, but what may be stopping them is simply a lack of information.

3. Location

Opportunity is also location-sensitive. While in London this month, I made an interesting discovery: most high-rise buildings are concentrated in a few strategic parts of the city. Those locations are what make London the financial hub of Europe.

I’ve seen how some people’s lives changed drastically just because they relocated somewhere or attended a particular program. I’ve read stories of businessmen who sealed major deals while playing golf. But of course, not just any golf course—exclusive ones where you have to be invited. That’s the power of strategic location.

Even in real estate, some plots of land are worth millions while others remain low in value. The difference lies in the immediate and future value those locations can command.

Conclusion

Are you waiting for a spectacular opportunity, when it seems the host of heaven will center around you? Don’t—because you may wait forever. Instead, choose to actively engage with the three elements that unlock opportunities: pursue good relationships, seek valuable information, and position yourself in destiny-shaping locations.

Every day we are presented with opportunities, but often we miss them because they come in raw, unfashionable, and unexpected forms.

“Opportunities do not come with their values stamped upon them. Everyone must be challenged. A day dawns, quite like other days; in it, a single hour comes, quite like other hours; but in that day and in that hour the chance of a lifetime faces us.”  — Maltbie Davenport Babcock

“Opportunities? They are all around us . . . There is power lying latent everywhere waiting for the observant eye to discover it.” — Orison Swett Marden

“Opportunities multiply as they are seized.” — Sun Tzu

“If a window of opportunity appears, don’t pull down the shade.” — Tom Peters

“Our lives are defined by opportunities. Even the ones we miss.” — F. Scott Fitzgerald
